Food World

Even though we called the shop Food World, it is really just a basic grocery store here in Gojwara, Srinagar. We did not want a name that was too complicated, so we just went with that one. We sell all the things you need for a kitchen like rice, pulses, and spices. The bags of flour are usually stacked near the door because they are heavy to move. Most of our customers are women from the houses nearby who come in every day for small things they forgot to buy earlier. We have been in this spot for quite some time now. The shop is nothing special to look at from the outside, just a regular door and some windows with things displayed in them. Inside, it smells like spices and tea. We know most people’s names and we know what they usually buy, so we sometimes have it ready before they even ask for it. Srinagar can be a difficult place to run a business sometimes because of the weather, but we manage to stay open most days. We do not have any employees, it is just our family working here. We like the work because it keeps us busy and we get to hear all the news from the neighborhood. It is a steady job and it is how we make our living. We just try to keep the shelves full and the floor clean.
