Gautam Finishing

Running Gautam Finishing from A 50 in Mahavir Enclave is a full-time job that never really stops. We are tucked away in Gali No 2, which isn't the widest road you will find, but it gets the job done for us. Most of our day is spent dealing with heaps of clothes that need that final touch before they are ready for whoever bought them. The irons are usually going all day, so the air inside gets quite heavy with steam. It is a bit of a squeeze when a big load comes in, but we have a rhythm down now after all this time. Being in Mahavir Enclave means we know most of the people around us. You see the same faces every morning when the milk is being delivered. We aren't trying to be some massive factory or anything like that. We just handle the finishing work for the garments that come our way. Sometimes the electricity cuts out and we have to wait around, which is annoying, but that is just part of living and working in this area. We don't have a big sign or anything, just the work we do. It’s a practical setup, nothing more than what is needed to get the clothes pressed and packed. My hands are usually tired by the end of the shift, but seeing the stacks of finished items makes it feel alright. We keep the doors open and just work through the pile.
