Ashoka Service Station

Ashoka Service Station sits right across from the Siri Fort Auditorium on Sheetla Mata Road. Being at 75 Sector 5 means we see a lot of traffic. It's a loud spot. There is always the sound of engines or tires on the pavement. We spend most of our time out in the bay. Hands are usually dirty with oil or dust from the road. It’s not a clean job, but someone has to do it. We've been here long enough that we know the regular drivers who pass by. The morning starts with opening the gates and checking what came in overnight. Sometimes people drop off their cars and walk over towards the auditorium area while they wait. We have a couple of chairs for people to sit on, but most don't stay long. The weather gets tough in the summer, especially with the metal roofs. We drink a lot of water. There’s a tea stall not too far away that we go to twice a day. It’s just us working through the list of things that need fixing. We don't really have big signs or anything. Just the station. Some days the road is so jammed it’s hard to get cars in and out. You learn to be patient. It’s a basic setup. Tools everywhere, spare parts in the corner. We just focus on the work in front of us. The floor is stained with years of work. No matter how much we sweep, there's always more dirt. That’s just the nature of a service station on a busy road.
