We are located in the basement of H-79 in Lajpat Nagar-I. It’s a bit of a hidden spot, away from the main noise of the street, though you can still hear the traffic muffled above us. Being in a basement means it stays a bit cooler during the Delhi heat, which we all appreciate. The shop is filled with various items we’ve brought in, and honestly, it’s a bit cramped in here. We have rugs and fabrics stacked up, and sometimes it's hard to find a place to sit and have a cup of tea. It’s a family-run kind of thing, so you might see someone’s cousin or brother helping out on any given day. We don't have a fancy showroom with bright lights. We just use what we have and focus on the arts themselves. People who know about us usually find their way down the stairs by word of mouth. We spend a lot of time talking to visitors and showing them the different patterns and materials. It’s not a high-pressure environment; we’re just happy to show what we have. Sometimes the lights flicker or the floor gets a bit dusty from the street outside, but that’s just life in Lajpat Nagar. Umar Kashmir Arts is just a small, honest business trying to keep the traditional stuff going in a busy city. We take things one day at a time and try to treat everyone who walks in like a neighbor.
