About Tibetan Refugee Self Help Handicrafts – Art & Craft in South Delhi
We are over at 23, Masjid Road in Jangpura. Tibetan Refugee Self Help Handicrafts has been around this neighborhood for quite a while now. The building is a simple one, and we use the space to show the various rugs, clothes, and small items that the community makes. It’s not a fancy boutique by any means. There are stacks of wool in some corners and boxes of incense in others. Jangpura is a nice area, fairly quiet on our street, though the Masjid Road gets its fair share of traffic during prayer times. We have a few people working here, mostly just keeping the place tidy and helping whoever walks through the door. The lighting inside isn't the best, so we usually keep the main door open to let the sun in. We don't do much advertising or anything like that. People find us because they live nearby or someone told them about the sweaters or the wall hangings we have. We spend a lot of time just sitting together, maybe having some butter tea while we work on the inventory. The shelves are made of old wood, and they groan a bit under the weight of the heavy carpets. We don’t have a computer for the sales; we just use a calculator and a receipt pad. It’s a slow-paced environment where we just focus on the crafts and the people who make them. It feels more like a community center than a store.
