Ras Vastra

Down here in Tuglakabad Extn, at Rz-2979 / 33, things move pretty fast. We’ve got this space where we handle all the clothes and fabrics, and it’s usually a bit of a mess with scraps everywhere. That’s just part of Ras Vastra though. We don’t spend much time cleaning up for show because there is always another batch of fabric waiting to be processed. Some days the heat in the back is a bit much, but we have a couple of fans going to keep it okay. We aren't some big corporate office with glass walls; we’re just a bunch of people working with cloth. You can hear the machines humming from the street most afternoons. Most of us live nearby, so it’s a local crowd. We deal with all sorts of materials, and sometimes the colors are so bright they hurt your eyes after a few hours of looking at them. We just pack things up in bundles and move them out to the trucks. It’s honest work and it pays the bills. Sometimes we run out of space and have to stack things pretty high, which makes it hard to walk around the room. But we know where everything is. It’s not a perfect system, but it works for us. If someone stops by, they’ll usually find us with measuring tapes around our necks, just trying to get the next lot finished on time without making mistakes.
