M & M Cottage Industries

Our place is at 75, Line Road in Lajpat Nagar-III. It’s right in the middle of a very busy neighborhood, so there’s always something to see out the window. We are a cottage industry, which means we do a lot of things by hand and on a smaller scale than the big factories. The workshop is usually a bit of a jumble with different materials and tools everywhere you look. We’ve been here in Lajpat Nagar for a long time and have a lot of local connections. People around here know us for the items we make. We don't have a polished showroom; it's more of a working space where customers can come in and see what's being made. It's a very hands-on job and we often have several different projects going at once. We don't do much in the way of formal advertising. Most of our work comes from word of mouth or people just walking by and seeing us at work. We like the traditional way of doing things, even if it takes a bit longer. It feels more personal that way. We aren't interested in becoming some big corporate entity. We just want to keep making our goods and serving the people who come through our door. It’s steady work and it keeps us busy, which is all we really ask for. We have seen families grow up on this street and it feels good to stay here.
