Kashmir Art Store

Kashmir Art Store is our little shop at Number 45 A on the ground floor in Saket. We’ve been here for years, surrounded by all the carpets and shawls we bring in. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze inside because we have so much stock, but that’s just how an art store should be, I think. People come in from the street to escape the heat and end up staying for a cup of tea while looking at the wood carvings. We don't have any big sales pitches; we just show people what we have. It’s a family business, passed down, and we try to keep things traditional. Saket is a nice place to be, though it has gotten much busier than when we first opened the doors. The rent keeps going up, which is a worry, but we have enough regular customers to keep us going. We spend a lot of time dusting the shelves and rearranging the displays. It’s a quiet kind of work most of the time. We aren't trying to be the biggest store in town, just a place where you can find something real. Sometimes we sit outside on the stool and watch the people go by. It’s a good way to spend the afternoon. We don't have a fancy website or anything, we just prefer talking to people face to face. It feels more honest that way. We’ve become part of the furniture in this neighborhood over the years.
