Jai Ambe Dry Fruits & Masala Store

If you walk down towards Govindpuri Extension in Kalkaji, you will find our shop at 1670/1. It’s a busy little neighborhood and we’ve been part of it for a good while. Jai Ambe is mostly just about dry fruits and all kinds of masalas that people need for their daily cooking. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is the smell of ground turmeric and maybe some black pepper. We keep everything in big jars and bags stacked up against the walls. It’s not a huge space, so things can get a little cramped when more than three people are inside at once. My brother and I usually handle the weighing and packing. We try to keep the stocks fresh because nobody likes old walnuts or damp spices. The street outside is always full of people going to work or kids coming back from school. Sometimes it gets a bit loud with the traffic, but we just turn up the radio and keep on working. We don't have any fancy displays or anything like that. We just focus on having the stuff people ask for when they come in. Some customers have been buying their monthly kitchen supplies from us since we opened. It’s nice to know everyone’s name and what they usually like to buy. We just take it one day at a time here in Kalkaji, making sure the jars stay full and the floor is swept at night.
