Govinda Handicrafts

We are based in G-11, Allied House, at the Local Shopping Centre in Madangir. It is a busy little spot with people coming and going all day. Govinda Handicrafts is the name on the board outside. The office is on the ground floor, which is good because we are always moving heavy crates of handicrafts in and out. It is not a polished showroom like you see in the magazines. It is more of a storeroom where we also happen to have our desks and computers. There is always the smell of wood and sometimes a bit of incense in the air. We work with a lot of different people who make these things by hand in their own villages. Our job is to get the items here and then send them out to whoever bought them. It involves a lot of bubble wrap and packing tape. My hands are always dry from handling all the cardboard boxes. Madangir is a lively place to work and there is a market right outside, so it is never quiet. We have a lot of regular delivery guys who come in for a quick chat while they wait for their paperwork to be signed. We do not have any big corporate goals. We just try to keep the inventory moving and make sure the bills are paid. It is a regular job for us. Some days are stressful, but usually, it is just steady work.
