Down in the basement at K-13A in Khirki Extension, it stays a little cooler than it does on the Malviya Nagar streets outside. Garhwal Aircon Services Pvt. Ltd. has been operating out of this spot for a while now. You have to come down the stairs to find us, and usually, the walkway is lined with old AC units and copper piping that we’ve pulled out of various buildings. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze sometimes with all the tools and gas cylinders lying around. The light isn't the brightest, but we know exactly where every wrench and screwdriver is kept. Delhi summers are our busiest time, and the phone doesn't stop, but even in the off-season, we are down here tinkering with compressors and cleaning out filters. It’s a messy job, and our hands are usually stained with oil and grime. We don't have a receptionist or a waiting room; if someone comes by, they just find us among the machines. We know the lanes of Khirki well, and the guys are always coming and going with their toolkits. It isn't a glamorous setup, just a basement filled with parts and the sound of someone testing a motor. We just do the work that comes our way and try to keep things moving as fast as we can. It is just us down here making sure things stay cold for everyone else.
