Cafe Campus

Cafe Campus is situated right opposite the College of Vocational Studies in the 110017 zip code area. Being so close to a college means our schedule is mostly dictated by the students' classes. We open up early enough to catch the first group of people coming in for their morning break. The place is pretty simple, nothing too fancy or modern. We have some posters on the walls and chairs that have seen better days, but they do the job. A lot of our time is spent just keeping up with the mess that comes with a busy crowd. We sweep a lot and spend a good chunk of the afternoon washing dishes in the back. It is just a small team of us here. We don't really have a hierarchy or anything, we all just jump in where we are needed. Sometimes we are short-handed, so one person might be taking orders while also trying to clear tables. The 110017 area can get pretty loud with the traffic and the students hanging around outside. We just focus on getting the orders out and making sure we don't run out of the basics like tea or bread. It isn't a glamorous life, just a lot of repetitive tasks and trying to keep the place looking halfway decent. We just take it one day at a time and deal with the college crowd as they come. It keeps us on our toes for most of the semester.
