Barista

We are tucked away at P-33 in South Ext, New Delhi. It’s a pretty well-known spot in the neighborhood if you know where to look. The shop isn’t overly large, but we’ve managed to fit in enough tables and chairs for the locals who stop by daily. We spend our days making drinks and cleaning up tables after people leave. It’s a lot of repetitive work, but we enjoy the rhythm of it most of the time. The smell of coffee is everywhere, which is nice for us. We have a few regulars who come in at the same time every morning. We know their orders before they even speak, which saves everyone some time. The stools are a bit worn out, and the wooden counter has some stains that just won't come off no matter how much we scrub, but it gives the place some character. We don't have a big corporate team sitting in an office somewhere. It’s just us, the staff, trying to keep up with the orders. Sometimes the milk delivery is late and we have to scramble around to find some, but that’s just part of the job. South Ext is always busy with shoppers and cars, so we get a lot of foot traffic throughout the day. It gets really loud when the afternoon rush hits. We just keep our heads down and keep moving. It’s a simple setup. We don't use any fancy machines that we don't need. Just the basics to get the job done. It’s a good place to work.
