Shireen Handicrafts

If you go up to the top floor at E 665 in Jaitpur Extension Part 2, you will find Shireen Handicrafts. It is a bit of a climb, especially in the heat, but that is where we do all our work. Badarpur is a crowded area, so there is always noise coming up from the street. We make things by hand here. Usually, it is a lot of sewing and small detail work. There are bits of fabric and thread all over the floor by the end of the day. It is not a showroom, just a workspace where we get things made. My sister and a few neighbors help with the stitching. We started this because we wanted to earn a bit from home. We do not have a big sign outside, just the address. People usually find us through word of mouth in the extension. The light is good on the top floor, which helps when you are doing fine work. Sometimes the deliveries are late because the lanes around here are so narrow for the rickshaws. We just pack everything up and send it out when it is ready. It is a simple setup. We do not use big machines, mostly just hand tools and old sewing machines that we have had for years. It is quiet work mostly, except for when we are all talking over tea. We have piles of finished goods in the corner waiting for the delivery guy.
