Asian Handicrafts

Our workspace is located at S-31 in the Okhla Industrial Area, Phase-II. If you’ve ever been to Okhla, you know it’s a place where things are actually built and moved every day. The air is always a bit dusty. You can hear trucks backing up outside most of the time. Inside Asian Handicrafts, there is a lot of manual work going on. People are usually busy with their hands, working on different materials and making sure everything looks right. We don’t have a fancy showroom here. It’s more about the production floor and the storage shelves that go all the way to the ceiling. It can get pretty loud when everyone is working at once, but that’s just how an industrial area feels. We have been here for a long time and have seen the neighborhood change quite a bit. Some days are more stressful than others. This is especially true when we have a big deadline and the packing tape keeps running out. We drink a lot of chai to keep ourselves going throughout the afternoon. It’s a very hands-on environment where you’re likely to get some dust on your clothes if you stay too long. We just focus on the tasks we have for the day and try to make sure everything we send out is in good shape before it’s loaded onto the trucks. It’s hard work, but we’re used to the noise and the busy schedule here. We just take it one day at a time. It’s what we know how to do.
