Sunkadakatte is a crowded part of Bangalore. To find Alpha Gears, you have to turn off Magadi Main Road and head into Muthuraya Swamy Layout. We are at No. 49/5 on the 15th Cross. It is a bit of a maze back here if you are not used to these small streets. The shop is full of the smell of machine oil and the sound of metal cutting. We work on gears all day long. It’s loud, and the floor is usually a bit greasy no matter how much we sweep it. Most of the guys here have been working these same machines for years. We get our coffee from the little stall at the corner of the cross. Magadi Road is always jammed with buses and bikes, so getting parts delivered can be a headache sometimes. We just stay in the workshop and focus on the tasks at hand. It’s a simple setup with a small office area tucked in the back where we keep the ledger. We don’t have a website or anything like that, we just rely on the fact that people know we are here in Sunkadakatte. The iron shutters go up early in the morning and they don’t come down until late. It's a regular engineering shop doing regular work for the people who need it. We don't mind the grime as long as the machines keep turning and the orders get finished by the end of the week. Our hands are usually black from the grease by noon.
