Alankaram Company

Our place is back in the Mohan Cooperative Industrial Estate at B-2/37. It’s right behind the Badarpur Metro Station, which makes it easy to find once you get into the estate. Alankaram Company is where we spend most of our waking hours. It’s an industrial area, so there is always the sound of trucks and people shouting. We do a lot of designing and making things here. The workshop is usually full of wood shavings and the smell of polish. It’s not a showroom where everything is perfect. There are sketches taped to the walls and half-finished pieces sitting in the corners. We aren't trying to be some high-end corporate office. We just like making stuff that looks good and lasts. Sometimes the heat in the warehouse gets to be too much, so we take breaks and sit by the back door where there’s a bit of a breeze. My hands are usually stained with something by the end of the day. We’ve been in this spot for a while now and the metro station being so close has changed things a bit, but inside the gates, it’s still just us working. We don't have a receptionist or anything fancy. If the phone rings, whoever is closest picks it up. It's a busy, messy, honest kind of life and we wouldn't really want it any other way. It is just about doing the work and getting things finished.
