Our workplace is located at N 1 15 S M Nagar Housing Estate in Sarkarpool, Kolkata. It is a bit further out from the main city center, which makes the daily commute a little different for us. The housing estate is a large area, and we are tucked away in one of the residential blocks. It is a quiet environment for the most part, which really helps when you have to focus on complicated figures all day long. We have a few rooms set up with standard desks and chairs. It is a very basic arrangement without any frills. We don't have a big cleaning crew, so we usually just tidy up our own desks and the common area. Most of the work involves computers and keeping track of various records that come our way throughout the week. We have a small pantry where we make our tea and sit for a few minutes when we need a break from the screen. The neighbors in the estate are mostly families, so it doesn't feel like a cold or distant business district. Sometimes we hear children playing outside while we are working on tax forms or audit papers. It is a very grounded way to work. We don't use any big words to describe what we do; we just handle the assignments as they arrive. By the time evening comes, we pack up our bags and head out.
