Grasim Cement- Hotgi

Our spot is right on Hotgi Road in Solapur, at number 43 in Navodaya Nagar. It’s pretty easy to find since we are right opposite the Women Homeopathy Medical College. Being in this part of Maharashtra means we get a lot of foot traffic and people asking questions while they’re on their way somewhere else. We aren’t a corporate office with people in ties; we are the ones actually moving the cement. The warehouse stays cool enough, but the work is always hot. We spend our mornings checking the inventory and making sure nothing got damaged during the night. The trucks from the Hotgi unit come in frequently, and that’s when the real work starts. It’s a lot of shouting directions and making sure the stacks don’t lean. We’ve got a good system down now, even if it looks a bit messy to an outsider. We deal with all sorts of people, from big developers to a guy just needing one bag to fix his stairs. We don’t treat anyone differently. Life here is mostly about the schedule of the trucks and the needs of the local neighborhood. It’s a practical way to earn a living, and we take some pride in knowing that a lot of the buildings around this part of Solapur used the stuff that passed through our hands. It’s simple, it’s dusty, and it’s what we do every day without fail or much of a break.
