Mahadev Granite & Tiles

Down here in Salugara, in the Darjeeling district, we run this little granite and tile business. It’s a busy area with a lot of new construction happening lately. We have a mix of stuff in the shop, from the heavy granite slabs to boxes of floor tiles. It gets a bit cramped sometimes when we have a lot of stock, but we make it work. Most of our customers are people from around the neighborhood who are fixing up their kitchens or bathrooms. We don't go in for fancy displays; it’s mostly just stacks of tiles and stone where you can see the actual product. The weather up here can be a bit damp, which we have to watch out for so the boxes don’t get ruined. We’ve been here long enough that most of the local masons know our name. We spend a lot of time just loading and unloading. It’s not the easiest work, but it’s what we do. Sometimes we get people coming in who aren't really sure what they need, so we just show them what’s popular and let them decide. We don't have a big corporate office or anything like that. It’s just a local shop where you can come in, pick out your tiles, and arrange for someone to haul them away. We just try to stay busy and keep the inventory moving through for the local builders.
