Jay Shree Marble

Our shop is located at No.43, right near the market at 2nd Mile on Sevoke Road. We are directly opposite Hotel Sachitra, so that usually helps people figure out where we are if they get lost. Working here on Sevoke Road means it is always busy with traffic and people going to the market. We deal in marble mostly, and that means a lot of heavy lifting every single day. The yard can get a bit messy with stone dust and scrap pieces, but we try to keep it as tidy as we can. We have been here long enough that the local shopkeepers all know us by name. It’s a practical sort of business. We do not have any fancy displays; we just show the stone as it is. Some slabs have more veins than others, and every piece is a bit different. That’s what makes it interesting, I suppose. We spend a lot of time out front watching the road and waiting for the next delivery to arrive. When a customer comes in, we just show them what we have in the stacks and help them out. It’s honest work and it keeps us on our feet throughout the day. Sometimes we sit in the back and have tea when it is quiet, but usually, there is something that needs moving or a floor that needs sweeping. It’s just us doing our best to keep the business going here across from the hotel.
