About Sharada Sarees – Art & Craft in Secunderabad
Our shop is on the ground floor of Balaji Mansion, right beside the Hanuman Temple in Kavadiguda. Being next to the temple means we hear the bells a lot, which is actually quite nice. We have the space at 1- 3- 1061 & 62 where we keep all the sarees. It’s a decent sized room but once you start piling up the fabrics, it feels a lot smaller. My sister and I spend most of the day folding and unfolding things for people. Sarees take up a lot of room and they have to be handled carefully so they don't get wrinkled. We’ve been in Kavadiguda for a long time now. The building is older but it stays relatively cool inside even when it's hot out. People usually find us because they’re already going to the temple or they live in the mansion nearby. We don't have any fancy displays, just the wooden counters where we show the cloth. Sometimes the street gets really crowded, especially on festival days, and we just leave the door open to let the breeze in. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting the heavy bundles and making sure everything is counted correctly at the end of the day. We just do our thing here and keep the shop running as best as we can. It’s a simple life and we enjoy seeing the familiar faces that come by every week.
