We’ve been here in Tirumalagiri for a while now, tucked away in Chandragiri Colony II. The space at number 26 is usually quite busy with different threads and bits of fabric scattered around. It’s not a fancy showroom or anything like that. Most days, you’ll find a few of us just working through the piles of hand-woven stuff we get in. Secunderabad has its own pace, and we kind of follow that. Sometimes the power goes out, or the delivery guys get lost looking for the colony, but we manage. The building is just a regular house turned into a workspace, so it feels quite cozy. We spend a lot of time sorting out colors and making sure the patterns look right. It’s dusty work, and there’s always lint on our clothes. People from the neighborhood stop by sometimes just to see what’s new or to chat. We don’t have a big team, just enough people to keep the machines and looms going. It gets quite loud when everything is running at once. My desk is usually covered in samples and tea mugs. We try to stay organized, but when a big batch of craft work comes in, the whole floor gets taken over. It’s just how it goes here. We like the light that comes in during the afternoon. It helps us see the fine details in the weaves. Most of our day is just spent making sure things get packed and sent out to whoever needs them next.
