Shri Devi Ponni Modern Rice Mills

Our mill is located on Rai Court Road in Sangroor, right near the petrol pump. You can’t really miss it because of the size of the building and the occasional smell of grain in the air. We spend our days dealing with the rice that comes in from the local fields. It is a dusty job, and by the end of the shift, most of us have a fine layer of husk on our clothes. The machines are loud and they run for hours on end, creating a steady vibration that you can feel through your boots. We don't have a polished front office or a receptionist. If you want to talk to us, you usually have to find someone walking across the yard or shouting over the noise of the dryers. We have been in this spot for a while now, and we’ve seen the seasons change the pace of our work. When the harvest is in, it is non-stop from sunrise to late at night. Other times, things quiet down and we spend our days maintaining the equipment and sweeping out the corners. It’s a plain, functional place built for a specific purpose. There are sacks of rice piled up in the warehouse and trucks coming in and out of the gate. We just focus on the processing and making sure everything is moving through the mill as it should. It’s hard work, but it’s what we do here.
