About Tata Refractories Limited – Metals & Minerals in Sambalpur
We are out here in Fashimal, which is a bit of a drive if you are coming from Sambalpur. You have to go via Jamankira to get to Sugyani Mahana where the site is. It’s quiet out this way but the work we do at Tata Refractories Limited keeps everyone pretty busy. Mostly we are dealing with materials that go into high-heat furnaces, which is heavy work and gets quite dusty during the dry season. The roads around here aren't always the best, especially when the rains come, but we manage to get things moved eventually. People in the village know us well because many of them have worked here for years. It’s not like a city office where everything is shiny. We have old desks and the fans hum all day to keep the heat off. There is always someone coming in with paperwork or asking about a delivery. We spend a lot of time just making sure the stacks are right and the inventory matches what the main plant needs. It’s a simple life really, just making sure the refractories get where they need to go without too much trouble. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit and wait it out, talking about the weather or how the crops are doing nearby. It’s just how things are at our spot in Orissa, doing the job as best as we can with what we have.
