Bijay Fabrication

If you go to Garposh in the Sambalpur district, you’ll find us near the main road. Bijay Fabrication is the kind of place where you’ll always hear the sound of a welding machine or a grinder. We work mostly with iron frames, gates, and whatever else needs to be put together with heat and metal. The shop is open to the air mostly, which is good because it gets very hot when we’re working. There are sparks flying quite often, so we have to be careful where we stand. The ground is covered in metal scraps and old welding rods. It’s not a pretty sight, but it’s where we do our best work. People from the surrounding villages bring in their broken farm tools or ask us to make window grills for their new houses. We don’t have a fancy catalog; we just talk about what they want and maybe draw a sketch on a piece of cardboard. The main road is right there, so we see a lot of people passing by on their way to Sambalpur. Sometimes we take a break and sit on a bench outside to catch a breeze. It’s hard work and our clothes are always stained with soot and grease, but that’s what fabrication is all about. We just keep at it, one job at a time, making sure things are sturdy before they leave.
