Singh Steel

Modi Para is a quiet enough place, and we are located right near the Gurudwara here in Sambalpur. Singh Steel is what we call the shop. I spend most of my days surrounded by metal sheets and heavy tools. It’s a straightforward life. We open up early, usually when the first prayers start at the Gurudwara. The work involves a lot of bending and welding steel. It’s not something you can do quickly if you want it to look right. We don't have any sales people or marketing guys. It’s just us doing the actual labor. The floor is concrete and always has some dust on it, no matter how much we sweep. Sambalpur gets really hot, so we have a few big fans going, but they mostly just move the hot air around. People stop by because they saw the shop while going to the temple. We don't have a website or anything like that. If you need something made of steel, you just come talk to us. We might be busy with a torch, so you might have to wait a minute. It’s a practical way to live. We’ve seen the neighborhood change over the years, but the way we work hasn't changed much. We just take the steel and make it into something useful for whoever needs it. It’s what we know how to do best.
