Green Vegetables

You will find us at 13-2/29 on Middle Street. It is a busy little spot, especially in the early hours of the morning. That is when most of our work happens, getting the vegetables sorted and ready. We are not a big supermarket chain. We are just a local business dealing with fresh greens and whatever else is in season. The floor is usually a bit damp from washing the produce, and there are crates stacked up everywhere. We don't have a polished business plan or a mission statement on the wall. Our goal is just to get the vegetables from the farms to the people while they are still good. We spend a lot of time on the phone with growers and checking the weather reports. Some days the spinach looks better than others, and we are honest with people about that. We don't use fancy packaging or expensive labels. We just put things in bins and let the quality speak for itself. The staff here are mostly local folks who don't mind getting their hands dirty. It is a lot of lifting and moving things around, and it can be quite cold in the storage areas. We like the rhythm of the work, though. It is simple and it is necessary. We don't try to be anything we are not. We are just the people on Middle Street with the vegetables, doing our daily work.
