Bombay Biryani Hotel

You can find us at number 23 on Vengadappan Street in the Shevapet area of Salem. We are quite close to the G H Shevapet, so many people stop by after visiting the hospital or finishing work in the market. We mostly focus on biryani, which we cook in big pots every morning. The smell usually fills the street by noon. It is a plain building with wooden tables and benches. We are not trying to be a five-star place. We just want to serve food that tastes like it was made at home. Some days are busier than others, especially on Sundays when families do not want to cook. We have a few guys in the kitchen who have been with us since we started. They know exactly how much spice to put in. Sometimes we run out of food earlier than expected, and we have to tell people we are closed for the day. It is a bit of a small space, so it can get cramped during lunch hour. We do not have air conditioning, just the ceiling fans that have been there for years. People come in, eat their fill, and head back to their business. It is a simple life running a hotel in Salem. We know most of our customers by their faces if not their names. It is just how things are around here on Vengadappan Street. We do not change the menu much because people like knowing exactly what they are getting when they walk in.
