Paramount Engineering

Down in Phase VIII B of the Industrial Area, the machines at Paramount Engineering are almost always running. If you walk into E-201, the first thing you notice is the sound of metal hitting metal and the smell of machine oil. It is a noisy place, but that is just how a machine shop is supposed to be. We spend our days looking at drawings and trying to get the lathes and milling machines to do exactly what they are told. Some of the guys have been working these same machines for a decade, so they know all the little sounds that mean something is going wrong. We do not have a marketing department or anyone to answer the phones with a scripted greeting. Usually, someone just wipes the grease off their hands and picks up the line. We make parts for other businesses, mostly stuff that people never see but that makes everything else work. The floor is covered in metal shavings by the end of the shift, and we spend the last hour cleaning up so we can do it all again tomorrow. It is hard work and the shop gets stuffy when the sun hits the roof, but we take a lot of pride in making sure the parts we send out are the right size. We just focus on the engineering side and try to keep our customers happy by not making mistakes on their orders.
