Working at Sbr Auto Components Ltd. in the Sidcul Industrial Area means you get used to the sound of machines and the smell of grease pretty fast. Our building is out here in Pantnagar, not too far from the Nainital Highway Road. You can hear the big trucks rumbling by all day long on their way up toward the hills. It’s a big area with lots of factories, so it feels a bit different than the main town. Most of us get here early in the morning when the mist is still hanging over the fields nearby. The work is steady and sometimes repetitive, but it’s what pays the bills. We don’t have much in the way of decoration in the office, just some old calendars and stacks of papers that need filing. The floor stays busy with people moving things around and checking on the machines. Sometimes the power goes out for a bit, and everything gets quiet, which is always a strange feeling in an industrial park. When shift change happens, the road outside gets crowded with cycles and scooters. It’s a practical kind of life out here. We aren't trying to be anything we’re not. We just make the components and send them off where they need to go. The rain can get heavy during the monsoon, making the yard a bit of a mess, but we manage to keep things moving regardless of the weather.
