Steps

Our shop is called Steps, and you can find us tucked inside Satyanarayan Market. We are located in Rangrej Gali, which is part of the busy Upper Bazar area here in Ranchi. If you know this part of town, you know how crowded it gets with people looking for clothes and shoes. We try to keep a good variety of things for people to wear on their feet. The shop is small, and we have boxes stacked right up to the ceiling. Sometimes I have to use a tall ladder just to find a specific size for someone. The market life is loud and fast. We hear the vegetable sellers nearby and the constant honking of bikes in the narrow Gali. It is a lot of work keeping the display clean because of all the dust from the street. We open up mid-morning and stay until the market starts to quiet down at night. Ranchi weather can be unpredictable, so we are always ready for a sudden downpour. Most of our customers are locals who have been coming to Upper Bazar for years. They like to look at a few different pairs before they decide on anything. We don't try to push people to buy; we just show them what we have in their size. It is a simple way to earn a living in a very busy part of the city. We just keep the boxes moving and help people find their fit.
