O.M.S. Tamarind Merchants (P) Ltd.

Our office is on the second floor, room 203, in the Amrut Commercial Centre on Sardarnagar Main Road. If you walk in, you’ll definitely smell the tamarind. It’s a strong scent that sticks to your clothes, but we don't even notice it anymore after working here for so long. The main road is always packed with rickshaws and people buying things, so getting to the office can take some time in the mornings. We have bags and samples sitting around on the floor. It’s not very organized to look at, but we know where everything is. The ceiling fan wobbles a bit and makes a clicking noise, which is basically the background music of our workday. We deal with a lot of farmers and transport guys who come in with dirt on their shoes. It’s a messy business sometimes. We spend a lot of time checking the fruit and talking about prices. My brother and I sit across from each other at two big wooden desks that we’ve had since the company started. We keep the windows shut because of the road noise, but it gets a bit stuffy in the afternoons. We usually send someone out for snacks around four o’clock to keep us going. It is just a basic place for a basic trade, nothing more than that. The walls are covered in old calendars from past years.
