Jawahar Vidyalaya

Jawahar Vidyalaya is tucked into a corner of Ranchodnagar Society on Pedak Road. Being at number 6 means we are right in the middle of a residential area in Rajkot. It feels more like a house than a big institution sometimes. The neighbors are used to us by now, even with all the noise that happens during the day. We have a small courtyard where some trees grow, giving a bit of shade when it gets really hot in the afternoons. The gate squeaks a little when you open it, and we keep meaning to oil it, but we always forget. Inside, the rooms are filled with the usual stuff like chalkboards and old wooden chairs. We don't have air conditioning, so we rely on the ceiling fans that hum all day long. Sometimes they make a clicking sound that you eventually stop noticing. Most of the people working here live in Rajkot, and some even live right in the same society. It makes the commute easy. We don't have any fancy brochures or big marketing plans. People just know we are here because their cousins or neighbors came here before. It’s a local spot, plain and simple. We spend our mornings drinking tea and checking the registers before the day really kicks off. When the sun goes down, the street gets quiet again, and we head home like everyone else in the neighborhood.
