We’ve been here on 150 Feet Ring Road for a while now. It’s a busy part of Rajkot, as anyone around here knows. Most mornings start early with the sounds of buses and parents dropping kids off at the gate. Atri Vidhyalaya is just a regular school where we try to get through the lessons and keep the courtyard clean for the students. It gets pretty dusty out there with all the traffic, so there is always someone sweeping up the front step before the first bell. The classrooms have high ceilings and we leave the windows open mostly, except when it’s really hot in the summer months or during the monsoon when the rain blows in from the west. We have a small staff room where we drink tea and talk about which students are falling behind or who needs a bit more help with their math. It’s not fancy at all. The benches are old wood and some have names scratched into them from years ago. We have a playground area, though it’s not huge, but the kids don’t seem to mind. They run around and play during the break times while we keep an eye on things. We try to keep things organized but schools are always a bit messy by the afternoon. Usually, by four o'clock, the building gets quiet again and we just prep for the next day. Sometimes we stay late to finish some paperwork or fix a broken desk. It is just daily work, really.
