Anil Engineering Works

If you go behind the petrol pump on Sanala Road, you’ll find us at Prithviraj Plot. Anil Engineering Works has been sitting in this same spot for a long time now. It’s easy to miss because the entrance is a bit narrow and there’s usually a couple of tractors or heavy trucks parked out front waiting for parts. The shop is full of tools that we’ve collected over twenty years. Some of them are a bit rusty on the handles, but they work perfectly for the heavy jobs we do every day. We don’t really have a set schedule; we stay until the job is finished, especially if a farmer needs his equipment back for the morning work. The walls are covered in old calendars and notes written in chalk so we don't forget the measurements. It smells like grease, burnt welding rods, and old tea. We aren't big on talking much while we work. You just hear the clanking of wrenches and the occasional sound of a heavy hammer hitting metal. Sometimes the neighborhood kids come by to ask for a bit of scrap metal for a school project. We usually give them something if they stay out of the way of the sparks. It’s a dusty place, and the wind from the road blows a lot of dirt in, but we just sweep it out every evening before locking up the heavy iron shutters. It’s just us doing the repairs and making sure things keep running for the people around here.
