Abhishek Marbles

If you’re driving down Gondal Road on the NH 8-B, you’ll find Abhishek Marbles on the left side service road. We’re right across from that Tulip Party Plot, so it’s hard to miss the big slabs of stone leaning against the walls. Working with marble and granite is heavy, loud, and very messy. There’s always a layer of white dust over everything, including our clothes and the old desk where we keep the books. We don't have a fancy showroom with air conditioning; it’s just us out here in the heat, moving stone around with the crane or by hand when we have to. Customers come in looking for something that will look decent in their kitchens or hallways, and we just show them what we’ve got on the racks. The noise from the Gondal Chowkdi traffic is constant, but you get used to it after a few years. It’s a lot of standing around waiting for trucks and then a lot of rushing when they finally show up. We’re just regular people trying to make a living by selling stone that actually lasts. Sometimes the edges get chipped or a slab breaks, and that’s just a bad day at the office. We don't use big words to describe the stone; it’s either good marble or it isn't. People come to us because they know we’re right here on the service road, doing the work every day and helping folks build their homes.
