Vanshpati Chakardhari Brick Making

We’ve been here in Gramkhatri for a while now, right by the Madhi post office. It’s a quiet spot in Tehsil Tilda but things get busy when the sun is up and we’re out in the yard. Making bricks isn’t fancy work, it’s mostly about the clay and getting the firing right. You’ll see the tall stacks of red blocks if you drive past the main road. Sometimes the rain slows us down and we have to cover everything up with plastic sheets, which is a real pain. We have a few guys from the village who come in every morning. They know the rhythm of the place better than anyone. The trucks come and go, usually kicking up a lot of dust near the post office gate. It’s hard work, especially in the summer months when the heat really hits the kiln area. We don't have a big office or anything, just a small shed where we keep the books and drink tea. Mostly, we just focus on getting the stacks ready for whoever needs them. People around Tilda know where to find us. It’s just how things are done here, day in and day out. We don’t bother with much else besides the bricks and the weather. The ground here is good for it, so we stay busy enough to keep the gates open. It’s a simple living for us in Madhi and we keep at it every day.
