Seepat Mahila Farmer Producer Company Limited is over in Pondiseepat at Koolsingh’s place. It is a local group of women who decided to get together and handle the farming business themselves. We don’t have a big corporate building with a lobby. Instead, we work out of a home where things feel a bit more comfortable. There is usually someone around the Koolsingh house if you need to ask about seeds or what the collective is doing this month. Pondiseepat is a quiet place for the most part, but we keep things moving with our meetings and the constant back and forth with the farmers. We aren't professional writers or business experts, just people who know the land and want to make sure the work is handled right. The paperwork can be a bit of a struggle sometimes, but we help each other out until it is finished. You might find us sitting outside under the shade when it gets too hot in the afternoon. We talk about the rain, the soil, and how the crops are looking. It is just a basic operation run by people who live right here. We don’t use big words or fancy promises. We just do the work day by day and hope for a good harvest like everyone else in the village. It is a long process but it is what we know.
