Kankeshwari Mahila Krushak Producer Company Limited

Out here in North Bastar, specifically in Devarpara, we run Kankeshwari Mahila Krushak Producer Company Limited. Our setup is right by the Chief Executive Office at the Jila Panchayat in Kanker. Being in such a central spot means we see a lot of people coming and going through the Po/Ps-Kanker area. We are a group of women who decided to take our farming more seriously by organizing ourselves. It is not always easy balancing the work at home with the work here at the producer company, but we manage it somehow. The office is usually humming with conversation as we plan out the next season’s planting or figure out where to sell what we have grown. Bastar is a beautiful place, but the logistics of farming can be a headache, so this group is our way of handling that. We do not have a lot of money for advertising or anything like that. We just rely on word of mouth and the fact that everyone knows us in Devarpara. We deal with the seeds, the soil, and the harvest every single day. The sun gets hot in the afternoons, so we try to get most of the heavy lifting done early. It is honest work, and we are just local women trying to make a go of it. Our office at the Jila Panchayat feels like the heart of our community.
