Rajasthan Stone Industries

We have been here at Santoshi Nagar for quite a while now. Most days it’s just us moving slabs around the yard. Ring Road No.-1 stays busy with trucks all day long, so there is always noise and a bit of dust coming into the shop from Pachpedi Naka. It’s part of the job when you work with marble and stone. Some days the sun is really beating down on the marble market, making the white stone almost too bright to look at without squinting. We keep a small office in the corner where the fan works most of the time. People come in looking for something specific for their floors or stairs. We just show them what we have piled up. Sometimes a delivery comes late and we have to stay past dark to get everything off the truck safely. It’s heavy work and my back feels it by the end of the week. The neighbors around here are mostly doing the same thing as us, so we all know each other. We don’t have fancy displays or anything like that. Just the stone sitting out where you can see the grain and the color properly. My tea guy comes around twice a day, and that’s usually the highlight of a slow afternoon. We just try to keep the inventory moving and the space organized as much as we can. It’s not a glamorous life but it’s what we do.
