Maity Engineering

Our workshop is situated on Barakar Road in the Alangidanga area, quite close to where Goshala Road begins. It is a busy spot, and there is always a lot of movement on the road outside. We focus on engineering and repair work, so our space is filled with all sorts of tools, scrap metal, and heavy machinery. It isn't the cleanest place in the world, as there is always some dust or grease around, but that is just the nature of the work we do. We have a small bench near the front where people can sit if they are waiting for a small repair. Most of our day is spent working on different mechanical parts that people bring to us from the surrounding neighborhoods. We have an old welding machine and some hand tools that have seen a lot of use over the years. The walls are mostly bare, except for a couple of old calendars and a small shelf for our tea cups. We usually get our tea from a vendor nearby and take a few minutes to talk to the other shop owners on the street. It is a very regular, local business. We do not use any complicated language to describe what we do. We just fix things and make parts as they are needed. Once the evening comes and the traffic on Barakar Road thins out, we put everything away and head home.
