Sharma Engg. Works

Down on Sanjib Sarani, near the Durgapur Station Road, you will find our small gate. We are right near Dreamland Nursing Home, which is a landmark most people in Durgapur know. Sharma Engg. Works is a place where the floor is rarely clean because we are always cutting or welding something. The industrial area here is full of noise, and we contribute our fair share to it. It’s a bit of a trek from the main station, but we’ve been here long enough that most of the local drivers know the way. We handle a lot of metalwork and mechanical repairs. It isn't a quiet office job; it's loud and messy. We have some old machines that still work better than the new ones, so we keep them running as long as we can. The Dist- West Burdwan climate means it gets very humid, but the shed keeps the sun off us. We drink a lot of tea while we look over the sketches for the next project. There isn't a lot of space for sitting around. Every corner of the shop is filled with scraps or tools that might be useful one day. We don’t do much in the way of decoration. The walls have a few old calendars and some stains from years of work. It’s a straightforward business for straightforward people who need things built or fixed. We stay busy with whatever comes our way.
