Our group is set up at Plot Number 988 in the village of Salghara. We are right near Baghnapara in the Bardhaman district, which everyone knows is the heart of the rice growing area in West Bengal. Baghnapara Agro Farmers Producer Company Limited is just a collection of local farmers who decided to pool their resources. The office is a simple room with some benches and a big table where we spread out our maps and documents. It gets quite noisy when everyone shows up at once to discuss the season’s plans. Bardhaman is famous for its fields, and we are right in the middle of it all. We don't have any corporate training or fancy suits. Usually, you’ll find us in our everyday clothes, probably with some mud on our boots. We deal with the day-to-day problems like getting fertilizer on time or fixing a broken pump. It’s not glamorous, but it’s the life we know. The sun can be brutal in the summer, so we usually do our heaviest meetings in the early morning or late evening. If you come by the 713501 area, you’ll see plenty of people working the land, and we are just one part of that big picture. We keep things straightforward and try to stay honest with each other about what we can actually achieve every year.
