Unnati Ply

Down here at Nana Varachha, specifically in the Dharmistha Society area of Bhawani Peth, is where we keep all our plywood. The shop is number nine. It’s basically just rows and rows of different boards stacked up high. You can always smell the wood and the glue when you step inside. It gets everywhere, even on your clothes by the end of the shift. We spend a lot of time moving sheets around so customers can see the grain or check the thickness. Some people come in knowing exactly what they want for a new cupboard, while others just have a rough sketch on a piece of paper. We don't do much fancy talking. We just show them what we have in the back. The area around Bhawani Peth is always moving, with bikes and carts going past the door constantly. It’s a bit cramped inside because plywood takes up a lot of room, but we know where everything is. On rainy days, we have to be extra careful to keep everything dry, which is a bit of a struggle sometimes. We’ve been at this spot for a good while, and most of the locals know where to find us if they’re fixing up their kitchen or putting in a new door. It’s just honest work with wood products, nothing more complicated than that. We have to sweep the floor three or four times a day just to keep the sawdust from taking over everything, but it's a losing battle.
