Tukai Provision Stores

You can find us at the Sarvoday Society on India Colony Road, right in the Bapu Nagar area near Bajirao Road. This provision store has been the main thing for our family for a long time. We stock the usual stuff like rice, dal, oil, and biscuits. The shelves are high and sometimes things get tucked away in the back where we can't see them. It is a neighborhood shop. Most of the people who come in are regulars who live just down the street. We know their names and what they usually buy on a Tuesday. It’s not a supermarket where everything is shiny. We have sacks of grains sitting on the floor and the weigh scale is a bit old but it works fine. Sometimes the cat from next door wanders in. We stay open from early until late because people always forget they need milk or sugar at the last minute. The traffic on Bajirao Road can be a headache, but India Colony Road is a bit calmer. We don't do any advertising. We just open the shutters and wait for the morning rush. It is a simple way to spend the day, talking to the neighbors and keeping the stock filled. The wooden counters are worn smooth from years of people leaning on them and sliding coins across. We have a small radio that stays on in the background, usually playing old songs or the news. My wife helps out in the afternoons when the kids are at school. We don't have a fancy computer system for the inventory. I just look at the shelves and see what is running low.
