The Maratha

The Maratha is located right in Wanoworie, and we’ve been running this place for some time now. It’s a simple setup where we serve local food that we grew up eating. We didn't want anything too shiny or corporate, just a place where you can sit down and have a meal. The tables are basic and the chairs are just okay, but we keep everything clean. Most of our customers are folks from the surrounding buildings who don't feel like cooking at home. We start early in the morning to get everything prepped. The kitchen smells like spices and oil most of the day. Sometimes we run out of things if the crowd is bigger than we expected, but that's just how it goes in a small shop. We don't have a massive menu, just the items we know how to make well. It's a family-run kind of vibe, even though we have a few helpers. Wanoworie is a busy area, so there's always noise from the street, but it feels like home to us. We just wanted to provide honest food without making a big deal out of it. If you come by, you'll see us behind the counter or checking on the kitchen. No fancy uniforms or scripted greetings here. We just talk to people like they're our neighbors, because most of them actually are.
