Sun Battery is located on the Mumbai Pune Road in Dhanakawadi, at 30/5. If you drive past, you’ll probably see a stack of old batteries outside or some jumper cables hanging up. It’s a dusty spot because of all the traffic moving between Mumbai and Pune, but it’s a good place for a battery shop. Most of the work involves lifting heavy lead-acid batteries and checking voltages. It’s hard on the back, and my hands are almost always black from the battery terminals and grease. The shop isn't much to look at, just a small interior filled with rows of new batteries and a corner for testing the old ones. We spend a lot of time waiting for the next car or truck to pull over because their engine won't start. When it’s busy, I’m running back and forth with a trolley, and when it’s slow, I just sit on a plastic chair and watch the trucks go by on the main road. Dhanakawadi is a busy area, so there’s never a shortage of noise. We don't have a fancy waiting room; customers usually just stand around while we swap out their battery. It’s a basic, practical business. We’ve been here at 30/5 for a long time, just doing this one thing and making sure people can get back on the road. During the rainy season, it gets a bit damp inside, but we keep the stock off the floor. It's just us here every day.
