Steel Merchants

Steel Merchants is located out at Plot 17 in the Panvel Co. Op. Industrial Estate. It’s a bit of a drive out here, especially with the truck traffic that always seems to clog up the roads in Panvel. Our plot is basically just a big yard and a small office area where we keep the paperwork. It gets really dusty during the dry season, so everything usually has a thin layer of grey on it. We spend most of our time unloading deliveries or getting orders ready for the next truck to pick up. The industrial estate has a lot of other businesses doing similar things, so there’s always the sound of engines and metal clanking in the background. It’s not exactly a pretty place, but it’s where the work happens. We have a few guys who handle the heavy lifting and a couple of us in the office making sure the numbers match up. The gate at Plot 17 stays open most of the day because there’s always something coming or going. We don’t have a lot of bells and whistles here. Just the scales, the crane, and plenty of space for the inventory. When the monsoon hits, the yard gets a bit muddy, which makes moving the heavier pieces a real pain. We just pull on our boots and get on with it. It’s honest work and it keeps us occupied from Monday to Saturday.
