Sitamai Gloves Industries

Our workshop for Sitamai Gloves Industries is in Pargaon, which is in the Khandala Taluka of Satara district. It’s a bit out of the way compared to the big cities. We make gloves here. It’s a quiet area for the most part, surrounded by more rural scenery. The building we work in is simple. We have our sewing machines and cutting tables set up inside. It’s mostly local people from the village and nearby areas working with us. We don't have a big corporate structure. Everyone knows everyone else's name. We start our work early to avoid the heat. Sometimes the power goes out in the afternoon, so we just sit outside for a bit until it comes back on. We aren't trying to be the biggest factory in the world. We just focus on making the gloves properly so they don't fall apart. It’s a lot of repetitive work, day in and day out. The air in Satara is nice compared to the city, which we appreciate. We don't have a website or do much on the internet. If someone needs to find us, they usually just ask around Pargaon. It’s a small community and word travels fast. We just want to keep the machines running and make sure there is enough work for everyone. It’s a practical life and we are happy with our small industry here in the district. Every season brings different challenges with the weather but we just keep going. Every morning feels the same here.
